Biographies for our leadership team and environmental client managers are provided as follows:
Daniel Gorsic, leader of the SynergyAspen team, began his environmental science career in 1994. Mr. Gorsic is a graduate of the University of Waterloo in Chemistry and Environmental Resource Studies and is also a member of the Association of Professional Chemists of British Columbia.
Mr. Gorsic founded Synergy Environmental Strategies Inc. in 2007 and subsequently merged Synergy with Aspen Environmental in 2012 to form SynergyAspen Environmental Inc. He is tasked with leading and developing the company in British Columbia and beyond. He is a member of the Board of Directors.
Mr. Gorsic lives in Belcarra, BC with his wife and two daughters. He is an avid tennis player and member of the volunteer fire department.
Margi Meekes has 16 years diverse experience in British Columbia’s oil and gas industry; with 11 years focused within the environmental sector. She has experience with construction and reclamation; Phase I and II commercial and oil and gas assessments; Certificate of Restoration applications for oil and gas activities; and large scale project management, including area based abandonment programs.
Ms. Meekes was raised in the Peace River Region and has dedicated her career to environmental sustainability and the restoration of oil and gas disturbances, with a focus on soil health and conservation. Along with environmental work, Margi is a small business owner and has experience with surface land administration, developing and maintaining safety programs to achieve Certificate of Recognition status, bookkeeping, oil and gas operations and maintenance, and agricultural and farming practices.
Ms. Meekes is also a proud mother of two, and a small business owner with a diverse background in agricultural practices and land administration.
Nancy Spagnut has over 13 years of experience in Finance, and she has worked internationally in the mining and metals sector.
Ms. Spagnut obtained her CPA, CMA designation in 2006; and is a graduate of Universidad Argentina de la Empresa (UADE) with a Bachelor in Accounting. She is currently working towards her CFE (Certified Fraud Examiner) certification.
Ms. Spagnut’s areas of expertise include accounting & finance, organizational systems, information management and report writing. She also provides SynergyAspen experience in budgeting, financial controls, and strategic planning. An avid mentor of her department staff; Mrs. Spagnut takes great pride in creating an environment that inspires excellence.
Ms. Spagnut was born and raised in Buenos Aires, Argentina and made Metro Vancouver her home in 1999. Nancy enjoys nature, theatre and classical music.
Jason Chalifour has over 18 years of experience in the field of environmental compliance associated with contaminated sites as it relates to the BC Environmental Management Act, Hazardous Waste Regulation and Contaminated Sites Regulation.
Mr. Chalifour has been involved in the upstream oil and gas industry since the summer of 2014. His experience includes authoring and/or reviewing oil and gas historical reports, Stage 2 Preliminary Site Investigations (Stage 2), Detailed Site Investigations (“DSI”), Data Gaps, Confirmation of Remediation reports and obtaining Certificate of Restorations (Part 1) for oil and gas clients.
Through SynergyAspen’s trademarked Desktop Remediation™, Mr. Chalifour has worked on over 50 upstream Oil and Gas sites in BC, resulting in the issuance of CoR Part 1’s and cost savings exceeding $10M. Mr. Chalifour has been registered as a P.Ag. since 2011 and has demonstrated his expertise in his chosen field.
Tania Rauscher has 17 years of environmental engineering experience and knowledge in the field of environmental site assessment and remediation in British Columbia and Alberta, primarily in the upstream oil and gas sector.
Specializing in contaminated sites in the upstream oil and gas sector, Ms. Rauscher has implemented a wide range of soil and groundwater investigation and remediation programs. Her project oversight focuses on incorporating innovative approaches to bring contaminated sites to regulatory closure. Ms. Rauscher builds productive relationships with stakeholders through consultation, risk communication and having a solid understanding of regulatory requirements, which is key to her work in ensuring regulatory compliance.
Ms. Raucher's interests in environmental sustainability carry over to her hobbies in ecological landscape design and permaculture. As a member of the Wolverine Nordic and Mountain Society, she can be found hiking the local trails and touring the Tumbler Ridge Global Geopark outside of work.
