Steadily and progressively for over 12 years, SynergyAspen developed a “way of thinking” that differs from others in the industry. We do not accept the idea that environmental risk is generic, meaning the conditions of environmental risk are assumed to be inclusive of the entire province. We also do not accept all approaches must be prescriptive, meaning the same set of rules or methods apply to the entire province. We believe environmental risk is Site specific, and risk at each Site must be evaluated and quantified based on the receptors, pathways and contaminants present at each specific Site. This has resulted in way of thinking, and a term now commonly used in our industry jointly created by SynergyAspen and the BCER, called Site Specific Risk Evaluation (SSRE). SynergyAspen’s specific approach to SSRE is called Desktop Remediation™, which we trademarked. Desktop Remediation™ is not a Site-Specific Risk Assessment (SSRA). If Desktop Remediation™ or Screening Level Risk Assessment (SLRA) does not fully address known or potential contamination on a Site (Desktop Remediation™ works at about 80% of the Sites on Crown land that we work on), SSRA would be used as a possible next step.
Using Desktop Remediation™:
A summary of SynergyAspen’s cost savings can be provided upon request. Client and Site-specific details were redacted. The summary indicates a cost savings total of $40M, although information for 2020 has not been included yet.
Although these results are unprecedented in our industry, we know we can do better. Our drive for continuous improvement is relentless. Five hundred million dollars ($500M) and 3,000,000 m3 of soil, are SynergyAspen’s goals for total cost savings and soil averted from landfill disposal by 2036, respectively. By working together under a common purpose with our Clients, we believe we can achieve this goal.
